Paper types

Coated paper

The demand for machine-coated paper remains high: from gloss mc (shiny paper) and silk mc (silk matt paper) to mat mc (matt paper) and available in grammages from 90 to 400 g/m2. This paper has a certain thickness, but is also available with a higher bulk. This coated paper feels thicker than its grammage would suggest, has a matt appearance and has a slightly rougher surface structure.

Besides the standard coated paper, various types of cardboard are also available, such as sulphate cardboard. This paper comes in grammages ranging from 180 to 400 g/m2 and even higher (name is duo) where two layers of paper are glued on top of each other. Grammage ranges from 370 to 770 g/m2. Sulphate cardboard is coated on one or both sides.

The above-mentioned types of paper are all wood-free. You also have wood-containing paper types, which can be used especially for lower grammages. Wood-containing paper is less translucent (opacity). The lower the grammage of the paper, the thinner it gets and the more translucent it becomes.

Uncoated paper

In recent years, the demand for uncoated paper has increased considerably. This has everything to do with the more natural look and feel of the paper. The most well-known quality is wood-free offset and is available in grammages from 80 to 300 g/m2.

Recycled paper

Recycled paper is increasing in popularity thanks to the growing attention paid to the environment. This paper is available coated and uncoated. The grammages are almost identical to standard coated and uncoated paper. Recently, paper types have also become available according to the ‘cradle to cradle’ principle.
